Curriculum

The Kindergarten curriculum at S.C.S. Matriculation Higher Secondary School focuses on laying a strong foundation for learning through play, creativity and exploration. Activities are designed to enhance language development, numeracy, motor skills and social interaction. Children are introduced to the world of colors, shapes, alphabets, rhymes, stories and basic number concepts in a joyful and interactive manner. Along with academics, emphasis is placed on good habits, discipline, health, hygiene and moral values at this stage

The primary curriculum nurtures curiosity and creativity while strengthening academic fundamentals. Students are introduced to structured learning with the following core subjects:

• English – Reading, writing, grammar, comprehension and creative expression.
• Second Language (Tamil) – Enhancing regional language proficiency.
• Mathematics – Basic arithmetic, problem-solving, logical reasoning.
• Environmental Studies (EVS) – Introduction to science and social awareness.
• General Knowledge & Value Education – Building awareness, morals and ethics.
• Co-curricular Subjects – Drawing, music, physical education, craft and computer awareness.

The emphasis is on conceptual clarity, communication skills, and holistic growth, with activity-based learning and regular assessments.

At this stage, subjects expand in scope, and students develop deeper academic insight. The curriculum includes:

• English (literature, grammar, creative writing)
• Second Language (Tamil)
• Mathematics (algebra, geometry, mensuration, data handling)
• Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology fundamentals).
• Social Science (History, Geography, Civics, Economics basics)
• Computer Science – Introduction to programming and applications.
• Physical Education, Arts, SUPW (Socially Useful Productive Work)

Focus is placed on critical thinking, teamwork, and preparing students for secondary-level learning.
 
 
 

The Secondary curriculum is structured to provide a strong academic base while preparing students for board examinations. Core subjects offered:

• English
• Second Language (Tamil)
• Mathematics
• Science (Physics, Chemistry, Life Science)
• Social Science (History, Geography, Civics, Economics)

The medium of instruction is English. Students are trained to achieve academic excellence while also participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities to ensure overall development.
 
 

At the Higher Secondary stage, students can choose from five different groups, based on their interests and career aspirations:

• Group I: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science.
• Group II: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics.
• Group III: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition & Dietetics.
• Group IV: Economics, Commerce, Accountancy, Computer Applications.
• Group V: Economics, Commerce, Accountancy, Business Mathematics.

This structured grouping allows students to specialize in Science, Commerce, or Nutrition streams, equipping them for higher education in engineering, medicine, commerce, management and other professional fields.

Across all levels, the curriculum is supported by:

• Co-curricular Activities – Clubs, arts, sports, literary activities, and cultural programs.
• Value Education – Building character, responsibility, and respect.
• Life Skills – Communication, leadership, and adaptability training.
